The ancient Greeks believed that every river, lake, fountain and pond had its own naiad, or water spirit. It was said that they shared the fate of their body of water; if it dried up, they died. If it sickened, so did they.
So far, about ten hours of work. I have a renewed appreciation for anyone who has mastered drawing water. It is maddening.
